Be safe when using diesel generators. A Kohler diesel generator can be a danger. Use John Deere generators outside. Don't plug Cummins generators into walls.

Diesel generators are supposed to be there for people's safety in case there is an emergency that causes them to lose connection to the power grid. However, the sad fact is that an item like a Kohler diesel generator can also be very dangerous and in some cases deadly. Every year people die because they use their generators improperly, putting themselves and their families in dangerous situations.

One of the most common safety issues is carbon monoxide poisoning. Many people don't realize that like with the diesel engine in a car, a diesel generator emits noxious emissions that are potentially very harmful or fatal if inhaled by people. Cummins generators that are being used indoors in such locations as garages, carports, basements or even patios can create a severe risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. This is why it is highly recommended that people only use diesel generators in outdoor environments.

Another risk comes when people try plugging their John Deere generators directly into their house's electrical wiring. This can cause a very dangerous situation called "backfeeding," where the voltage can be reversed. This can create a serious risk of electrocution to utility workers and other people trying to restore power to the community. For this reason, it's a good idea to hook electrical appliances directly into your generator, or use a heavy-duty electrical cord and surge protector designed to take heavy loads.

As with any piece of major equipment, it's a good idea to read all instructions and follow them closely to ensure your safety and the safety of others.
